This little girl takes no bull.

A statue of a young girl, hands on her hips and head held high, now stands in front of the infamous Wall Street bull.  It was installed on the eve of International Women’s Day by financial firm State Street Global Advisors to symbolize “the ‘can do spirit’ of women who are taking charge today” and inspire future female leaders, the company says.

“The idea with the girl is that she’s strong, confident, daring,” Lynn Blake, an executive vice president at the firm, tells Moneyish. “The posture is someone who can face anything, even a charging bull.”

This is part of the firm’s female-forward in which it asks the more than 3,500 companies that it works with to take meaningful steps to increase the number of women on their corporate boards. “We are calling on companies to take concrete steps to increase gender diversity on their boards and have issued clear guidance to help them begin to take action,” says Ron O’Hanley, president and chief executive officer of SSGA.
