Ugly holiday sweaters are still pretty fly.

Alaska Airlines is celebrating National Ugly Sweater Day on Dec. 16 by gifting customers wearing the kitschy tops with early boarding across its 115-city network, including flights operated by Virgin America and Horizon Air.

“Travel during the holidays can be stressful for guests, especially those who do not travel often,” said the airline in a statement. “This fun promotion not only allows guests to board early on that day, but gives people another opportunity to dust off that ugly holiday sweater hanging in the back of their closet.”

It’s not the only company getting in the holiday spirit. Brands like Chipotle, Krispy Kreme and Macy’s are also rewarding festive shoppers who come donned in their gay apparel, while brands like Starbucks are dishing freebies in the weeks before Christmas.



Wear your cheesiest sweater to participating Chipotle restaurants on Dec. 12, and score free queso for your burrito, bowl, salad or tacos. You’ve got to show up in-store wearing your sweater (no cheating by ordering online), and festive foodies have to buy a regular-priced entree before they can take the cheese.

Dash through the snow (or your morning commute) to the doughnut shop on Dec. 12 – which is National Gingerbread House Day – to taste the new Gingerbread Glazed Donut that will be available for one day only. The treat features spiced gingerbread dough glazed with a gingerbread molasses. Then return dressed to impress on Dec. 15 – National Ugly Sweater Day – when you can get a free dozen glazed doughnuts when you bag a dozen of any other pastries.


New York’s local news station is inviting tri-state viewers to share their ugly sweater selfies for a chance to be featured on TV or their website, as well as a New Jersey Lottery Holiday Scratcher pack. Simply post your pic to the Pix11 News Facebook page with the hashtag #UglySweaterPix, and include your name, city a holiday message you’d like to share.


The big box chain has been throwing more than 20,000 holiday parties and showcasing 165,000 product demos at its Supercenters all season, with its Gifts That Rock event on deck for Dec. 16 from 1 to 4 p.m. Customers can test drive a curated selection of this year’s video games, toys, electronics and home appliances. And don’t be surprised if Santa swings by some select stores.

You can also try the Christmas Frappuccino through Dec. 11, which tops a Peppermint Mocha Crème Frappuccino with a green matcha whipped cream “tree,” which is decked with a caramel drizzle garland, candied cranberry ornaments and topped with a strawberry.
