Kelly Ripa’s new co-host is none other than jack-of-all-trades (and toothpaste hoarder) Ryan Seacrest.

The 42-year-old former “American Idol” host was announced today as Ripa’s new partner on ABC’s “Live With Kelly,” which appears to have been renamed “Live with Kelly & Ryan.” In the past year, Seacrest has joined Ripa several times as a guest on the morning primetime show, which airs at 9AM in many markets. News of Seacrest coming onboard was first reported by CNN.

“Today’s a special day…it’s my TV wedding day!” said Kelly in an on-camera monologue urging Seacrest not to be nervous. “The next chapter of the Live story is set to be written….It’s a very good day!”

In a humorous nod, the show aired footage of Seacrest sneaking into the ABC garage this morning while lying low in the backseat of a car.

ABC has been hunting for a co-host for Kelly since former football star Michael Strahan ditched the show for “Good Morning America” last May in acrimonious circumstances. Ripa reportedly wasn’t told about his departure until after it was announced, leading her to briefly boycott her own show. Reports later emerged of a simmering conflict between Strahan and the 46-year-old Ripa, who has hosted “Live” for 16 years. This time though, Ripa was the first to tease news of Seacrest’s arrival, posting a tweet yesterday touting the announcement.

While no details have emerged as to Seacrest’s compensation, he won’t come cheap. Forbes estimates that the “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” producer, who is also a clothing designer and radio show host, made $55 million last year from his various projects. A representative for Seacrest didn’t immediately return a request for comment.

Still, the broadcast network will likely find hiring one of television’s most recognizable faces money well spent: “Live” is set to go head-to-head in morning prime time slot with a much-hyped new show from NBC News’ Megyn Kelly.
