Workey lets users and employers find their match
Job searching can be as easy as finding a Tinder date.
That’s the point of a new app called Workey, a millennial-targeted recruitment platform that allows hiring managers and job seekers to swipe through each other’s profiles like they would find a mate on a dating app. The right match results in an interview, not hook up.
Workey uses AI to compare your unique career history to millions of others to suggest personalized career opportunities in real time. Machine learning lets employment seekers browse through available job opportunities while company recruiters weed through candidates.
The startup features more than 500 company profiles from major companies like Yahoo, Dell, Taboola, Nielsen, Cisco and more.
Candidates looking for a job posting fill out a profile with their career history and pick a custom radius of how far away they’d want to work. Users can upload their resume or connect a LinkedIn account, and then personalized job opportunities will appear on the main sign up page they call your “path.”
Instead of swiping right when you like someone on Tinder, on Workey you give a “thumbs up” if you scroll through a gig of interest. The app then displays an anonymous version of a user’s profile to the companies and other similar businesses so the search remains private up until the match. If the company is interested, users get notified with a request to reveal their personal details.
“Statistics show that 85 percent of the workforce are open to a new job, however, only 12 percent of them are actively in pursuit of one. This demonstrates the immense untapped potential that can be available to employees,” Workey CEO Ben Reuveni told Tech Crunch.
A LinkedIn study released last year found that recent college graduates are more likely to change jobs at least twice before they turn 30. Since the majority of job seekers are millennials who are constantly checking their phones, the challenge for Workey will be to get long standing companies to make more of a push to recruit using mobile platforms, though it does offer a desktop version. Fewer than 20% of companies deploy their HR and employee productivity solutions on mobile apps today, according to Deloitte.
The startup’s fast and easy approach could be a way to get companies more applicants considering that 60% of potential job candidates have quit an application process because it was too lengthy. Workey is currently free for users and recruitment companies pay a fee when they hire someone from the platform.
Workey is up against some major competition. Other career sites, like Indeed.com, get around 100 million unique monthly viewers raking in a reported $750 million in revenue. And Monster.com has 1.5 million unique visitors a month and made an estimated $186 million in revenue in 2015.
