Pro tip: Experts say you can snag the big savings if you book a bundle — that is, your flight and hotel together all-in-one.
This year, travel deals for Cyber Monday will literally be the full package.
Cyber Monday will be a retail bonanza, if previous data is any indication. Shoppers dropped a stunning $3.45 billion on Cyber Monday sales in 2016, making the shopping fiesta the biggest day in US e-commerce history. And some experts say that 2017 could be even bigger.
Consumer research from RetailMeNot, out in October of this year, predicts that shoppers will spend an average $743 on merchandise over the discounted sales period running from Black Friday (Nov. 24) through Cyber Monday (Nov. 27). What’s more, the volume of shoppers participating is also forecast to increase from 39% last year to 56% this year.
Travel deals will be among the best deals this year, experts say. “A lot of millennials are looking for those big, Instagrammable, story-worthy trips,” says Alanna Smith, content editor at deal-centric website TravelPirates. “[It’s a] great time to book these for Cyber Monday,” Smith adds, noting that bargain hunters can “save hundreds of dollars between you and your friends.”
And you’ll often find the best travel bargains on Cyber Monday if you book packages — combinations of flights, hotels and sometimes car rentals— as opposed to individual reservations for just, say, a hotel or a flight.
With that in mind, here are a few of the best travel package deals for Cyber Monday:
Dozens of hotels across the country are offering deep discounts of 40% and up when you book on Cyber Monday. That include Gurney’s, the famed Montauk, New York, resort, and its sister resort in Newport, Rhode Islands. Deals include 30% off all rooms booked between Nov. 22 and Nov. 27, and 50% off private oceanfront cottages in Montauk or suite accommodations in Newport for reservations made on Cyber Monday (Nov. 27) itself.
Two other discounts experts flagged for Moneyish: The Sunrise Springs Spa Resort in Santa Fe, New Mexico, which is offering 30% off stays booked between Nov. 27 and Dec. 4., as long as you travel between Dec. 15 and March 29th; and the newly-renovated Carillon Miami Wellness Resort, which is offering savings of over $1500 if you book between Friday, Nov. 24th through midnight on Monday, Nov. 27th.
Mexico and the Caribbean:
Deals in Mexico, especially if you book a package, abound. You can visit Playa del Carmen in Mexico for $499, including three-nights in the adults-only, four-star Yucatan Princess Hotel and roundtrip airfare. Plus, “Cancun has some of the most aggressive airfares in the market,” adds Leslie Clevenstine, the director marketing at travel site Cheap Caribbean.
Caribbean deals can also be had to destinations like Aruba, the Bahamas, and, to a lesser extent, Grand Cayman, says Clevenstine, though these are “filling up with bookings quickly.” One particularly good option for parents: The Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts outpost in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. Kids up to 12 years old stay free, rates are being slashed by 50% from their normal height of $433 per adult per night, and each adult on the trip will also enjoy a 50% spa credit.
Dreaming of a European adventure? Smith says budget carriers like WOW Air and Norwegian are your best bets for Cyber Monday flight deals to Europe that you just can’t resist this year.
For instance, you might be tempted by the $99.99 one-way fares that SkyScanner.com says WOW Air will offer between the US and Europe, for travel anytime between December 2017 and May 2018. You’ll have to purchase two of these tickets — and outbound and returning flight — to enjoy the deal but, even so, a roundtrip ticket to Europe at less than $200 is a big incentive.
