These Saint Laurent boots will break the bank, but stylists say you can make a sexy statement for much less in knock-offs by Steve Madden and Jessica Simpson
These boots are made for flaunting — and for $10,000 stylists say they better be.
Stars like Beyonce and Kendall Jenner are turning heads in a pair of Saint Laurent grey knee-high boots covered in crystals from heel to toe that symbolize their status as glitterati.
The “Niki” boot is handcrafted and bedazzled with 3,000 Swarovski crystals and made in Italy from black leather that scrunches into folds for a more relaxed-fitting look and an easy-to-walk-in cone heel. Fashionable sites like Net-A-Porter say they pair best with a little black dress, but stars have styled them with just about anything, including mostly skin.
Jenner sat courtside at a basketball game womanspreading in the boots she paired with blue jeans, an oversized white turtleneck, red lips and a ponytail. Rihanna took a more street-style approach pairing them with baggy ripped jeans, a white T-shirt and an oversized black leather jacket accessorized with a pair of hoops on a night out. And leave it to Beyonce to take a, well, leg-is-more approach, pairing the boots with a grey t-shirt.

“I feel like they’re more for performers and entertainers or for the everyday socialite,” stylist Amanda Sanders tells Moneyish. “The whole outfit is the boot.”
The shoes stole the show on Yves Saint Laurent designer Anthony Vaccarello’s fall 2017 runway, dominating Instagram feeds soon after. Since then, they’ve become a sexy status symbol more affordable designers like Jessica Simpson, Aldo and Steve Madden have copied with strikingly similar styles for way less. And stylists like Sanders actually prefers the cheap knock offs to the real thing.
“I wouldn’t not accept them if they were a gift, but my issue with them is they have a triangular heel. They have a lot of fabric and because it’s a pull on boot, it’s not super tight and it becomes super slouchy — that’s where it loses its beauty in all the creases,” says Sanders. “Steve Madden and Jessica Simpson have a pair that are a pointier, sexier stiletto heel than the triangle heel. I think to the average person they’re a little bit sexier and certainly much more useful.”
Average people might have a hard time pulling them off at a sporting event like Jenner did, or at the office Christmas party, so Sanders suggests pairing them with an incredibly simple outfit like jeans, a plain sweater or a sweater dress with minimal jewelry to avoid the outfit looking like a tacky costume.
And if you’re going to splurge, do it now — Sanders says this boot’s shelf life will expire after the holidays.
Here are much cheaper alternatives to the sexy statement boots fit for the holidays:
These similar silver sequins boots have a skinny 4-inch stiletto heel, instead of a cone heel like the Saint Laurent, for a dressier evening look. They’re made with rhinestones and synthetic lining.
The crystals on this pair look nearly identical to the ones on the Saint Laurent boots and will cost you thousands less. The boot is less slouchy than the Saint Laurent and falls right at the knee. Like the Jessica Simpson pair, these have a four-inch heel stiletto.
These shiny silver boots are much shorter than the Saint Laurent for a desired everyday look. They’re made in Spain, and come in a wide slouchy fit, perfect for tucking into jeans or leggings and a 3.75-inch block heel. The inside features red satin lining.
This over-the-knee silver boot is a slip on stiletto heel with a closed pointy toe. The heel height is 3.75-inches
