How much CEOS and stars like Taylor Swift, George Clooney and Ellen DeGeneres earn — and how that compares to the average American
Some of America’s 1% make more money in 60 minutes than the average person will make in their lifetime.
Amazon honcho Jeff Bezos makes more than any person in America, raking in a whopping $4,475,885 per hour, according to an new analysis by Business Insider. That’s around 157 times the median annual worker salary at Amazon of $28,466. The publication looked at the estimated annual earnings for 16 of the richest Americans, and then divided the earnings by 8,760 (the number of hours in a year) to calculate how much each person earned in one hour.

Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg takes the No. 2 spot with $1,712,328 every 60 minutes. The richest woman in the world, Walmart’s Alice Walton, comes in third with a cool $1,392,694 per hour.
On another list of richest celebrities, actor George Clooney tops the list with $27,283 per hour. Clooney’s massive fortune comes on the heels of his mega successful tequila brand Casamigos, which sold to spirits giant Diageo for nearly $1 billion in 2017. The second spot goes to youngest Kardashian-Jenner clan member Kylie Jenner, 21, who covered the August issue of Forbes for being the richest “self-made” woman in America. She makes a reported $19,006 per hour through endorsement deals, her booming Kylie Cosmetics makeup line and other endeavors. And so Jenner makes the median U.S. salary of $45,442 in just two and a half hours, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Other leading ladies on the list making crazy money include Ellen DeGeneres with a reported $9,988 an hour; Taylor Swift with $9,132 per hour; and Beyonce with $6,849 per hour.

The average full-time worker makes just around $22 per hour if working an eight-hour day, according to the most recent statistics from the U.S. Department of Labor — with the average female worker making around $19.50 per hour and their male counterpart earning around $23 an hour.
