Jennifer Garner reportedly had an intervention and drove the ‘Batman’ star to another stint in rehab Wednesday
Ben Affleck may be off to rehab again.
On Wednesday, ex Jennifer Garner reportedly drove Affleck — who has struggled with alcohol addiction — to a rehab center in Los Angeles, according to both TMZ and E! News. Allegedly, Garner staged an intervention with the ‘Batman’ actor after a photo surfaced of him getting what looked like a box of booze delivered to his home. Ben Affleck’s rep did not respond to Moneyish request for comment.
Affleck has admitted to struggling with alcohol addiction in the past. In 2017 in a Facebook post, he told the world that he’d “completed treatment for alcohol addiction” adding that it was an issue he’s dealt with in the past and “will continue to confront.”
I have completed treatment for alcohol addiction; something I've dealt with in the past and will continue to confront. …
Whatever happens, one things is clear: The cost for a celebrity to go to rehab is jaw-dropping. Some of the top-notch centers that attract celebrities cost $40,000 – $60,000 for a month, and thousands more if you add in extras like a personal sober coach or private nurse, says psychologist Nancy Molitor, a professor of psychology at Northwestern. (For his part, Ben Affleck reportedly had a detox nurse last year, the New York Post reported — though Affleck did not confirm this in his Facebook post.)
And once you get out the spending doesn’t stop: You don’t just go into your local church basement AA meeting like the rest of us, celebs often attend private AA program, she explains — which may cost thousands more.
But for all that money, you get to live in the lap of luxury and privacy for a month or so. At Crossroads in Antigua, where pop star Brittney Spears was rumored to have gone in 2007 after famously shaving her head, clients enjoy seaside therapy sessions, acupuncture and massage — and can stay up to six months. At the Promises rehab centers — with locations in Austin and Los Angeles among other spots — you get ocean views, and perks like a swimming pool, jacuzzi, tennis courts, meditation garden and gourmet food. Clients reportedly include Lindsay Lohan, who has spent an estimated $150,000 on various rehabs, Charlie Sheen and Robert Downey Junior.
Molitor says that many celebrity rehab centers are located in beautiful spots because it helps them attract clients who can pay for their services out of pocket. They also tend to only allow a handful — sometimes a dozen or less — patients in at time to help guarantee more privacy, which also allows them to charge hefty fees.
The bad news: Even pricey rehabs don’t always work. Indeed, alcoholism recovery rates are only about 10 – 30%.
