Chinese cellphone maker Meizu’s upcoming Pro 7 may come with a second display on the back
Taking a selfie may be about to get easier.
Chinese smartphone maker Meizu will soon be launching a new model and it looks like it’ll come with a secondary screen on the back so selfie takers can see as they snap. Per the Verge, videos of the Meizu Pro 7 leaked earlier this month showing a Pac Man-esque game on the back display. But new reports suggest that the secondary screen isn’t a relatively low tech E Ink panel used on Amazon Kindles, but instead a full-color LCD display to delight selfie addicts.
While full specifications will only be confirmed at a launch event on July 26, other leaked details suggest the Pro 7 will come with a 5.2 inch high definition display in the front, dual 12 megapixel rear cameras and a 16 megapixel front facing lens. Its price is yet to be detailed, but Meizu’s current flagship model, the Pro 6, retails for around $400 in the United States.

The Pro 7 may be the first phone with a proper display on the back, but a veritable selfie industry has sprung up in recent years to make it easier to take photos of your mug. These include the Kim Kardashian-endorsed Lumee, a $55 phone case equipped with LED lights that flood your immediate vicinity with flattering light just as you grin. Meanwhile, the $25 iPrimo Lighted Selfie case even provides strobe lighting to different speeds. Apple watchers also speculate that the upcoming iPhone 8 could come in a mirror-like color.

While relatively unknown in the West, Meizu has quietly become a nimble competitor to the likes of Apple and Samsung. It shipped 22 million smartphones last year, 10% of which went abroad.
