This Kayak feature lets you hunt for flights, hotels and more at work while looking like you’re using Excel
Your boss doesn’t always need to know exactly what you’re doing.
Travel site Kayak has released a new feature that lets you search for flights, hotels, cars, trains and travel packages at work on the sly. “Hide your travel search from prying eyes (or just look really productive) by using our KAYAK At Work site,” Kayak writes about the new search feature. The site notes that it sees a surge in search traffic for travel searches during work hours, particularly between 11 am – 12 pm.
Here’s how it works: If you use a desktop or laptop in your office, the feature will cover the Kayak website with “what looks like a very in-depth, professional spreadsheet (hint: it’s not). You’ll still be able to search for and book travel (without having to quickly close tabs whenever your boss walks by) using the spreadsheet’s fields,” the company writes.
Moneyish tried it, and unless the boss gets right up on your computer monitor, they probably will think it’s just an Excel spreadsheet. The top of the report reads “Travel Problem Solved Report” and the search boxes simply look like the regular data boxes in Excel. There is however a significant orange search box on the screen when you begin your search, and prominent “view deal” orange boxes once your search results are revealed.
